These assessment booklets are 16 pages in total. They’re color printed, double sided on legal size cardstock, folded and stapled. The end result is seeing what a child is capable of: observation, following directions, letter & number formation, midline, speed in writing (shows how many sight words they know), a child’s pencil grip, pressure skills, writing in columns and more. All of which is assessed in a relaxed manner that doesn’t cause stress as in other forms of testing.
Second Grade and Up Explore Assessment Booklets
This performance based assessment booklet is a creative and fun way to see what the students in your second-eighth grade classroom know and what they can do. This booklet has three parts for the beginning, middle and end of the school year. Students draw and write stories to show us what they know. They copy a paragraph in a timed section to show how their letter automaticity is. Students copy images they have drawn during the year to show us the details they have observed during the Explore level DCIR course.
We assess uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers. We look at the midline, neatness of writing and how well the students completed the drawing lessons and more. This is a great take-away for parents and teachers love showing them off at parent-teacher conferences. This booklet gives the third grade teacher a clear picture of what their incoming students are capable of and what areas they are needing to work on in the upcoming year.
